Building Bridges

Logo

The symposium logo was taken from its title "Bioinformatics: Building Bridges" and, with apologies to Euler, the "Seven Bridges of Königsberg." Removing two bridges, we find "The Five Bridges of Bioinformatics." The discipline names on the "mainland" are a representative few of the many different biological and physical sciences which contribute to bioinformatics.

Specific to the University of Minnesota, these names are the home departments of the founding Graduate Faculty for the new Bioinformatics Graduate Program. As much as possible, those on the north bank are based in the College of Biological Sciences and the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences on the St Paul campus, those on the south bank are based in the Academic Health Center (East Bank south of Washington Ave), and those on the east bank are in the Institute of Technology (East Bank north of Washington Ave).
