The Bioinformatics Program Website

This website was developed by Sean Anderson, Steve Cannon, Mayen Effiong, Jeff Lande, Vicky Wangia and Lynda Ellis over Winter break, 2001-2. Steve Cannon created the program logo , which he describes:

The tree shows phylogenetic relationships between a small portion of the "nucleotide binding site, leucine-rich-repeat" plant disease resistance genes from six plant species. These genes are important in helping all plants fend off disease. Dark triangles are predicted genes from Medicago truncatula; open triangles are from Medicago sativa (alfalfa); blue open triangle is from pea; dark circles are from soybean; and the lighter circles are from common bean and pigeon pea. By plotting both species and gene trees together, we can better identify possible orthologs, and can help determine the pace of evolution of these genes relative to speciation events.

In 2006, the website started being hosted by and was redesigned by the Department of Computer Science, under the direction of Dr. Vipin Kumar. Thanks, Computer Science!

The Bioinformatics Graduate Program

This Graduate Program would not be possible without the support of its Graduate Faculty and Staff. It has also received support from others, many of which are listed here.
